August 24 - September 8, 2016
Opening Reception: Weds, August 24, 5-8pm
We are pleased to announce the opening of BOOTLEG, featuring works by Chris Bassett, Ed Beller, Ben Evans, Valerie Green, Shoshi Kanokohata, and Steven Simon. This is the sixth exhibition showcasing the talents of the UCLA Department of Art's support staff, who supervise the daily operations of the various genres as well as maintain their own art practices. Their works are as diverse as their disciplines.
Evans' sculpture and wall works use the latest observational data of the star constellation Lyrae (the Lyre) as an armature for formally exploring the vast grandeur of space-time; Simon's sculptural installation documents the passage of time; Beller will be showing duratrans backlit digital prints of images created in 3D modeling programs of painterly drips, drops, and splashes; Bassett's photographs examine dark secrets in the forest above Los Angeles; Green considers the space of the digital screen by examining the interplay between the virtual and the tangible; Kanokohata is contemplating on bowls.
