GHOST SHIFT

September 3-19, 2014
Opening Reception: Weds, September 3, 5-8pm

We are pleased to announce the opening of GHOST SHIFT, featuring works by Chris Bassett, Ed Beller, Deanna Erdmann, Ben Evans, Whitney Hubbs, Jared Pankin, and Steven Simon.

This is the fifth exhibition showcasing the talents of the Department of Art's support staff, who supervise the daily operations of the various genres as well as maintaining their own art practices. Their works are as diverse as their disciplines.

Evans' drawings of simple circle constructions investigate scale and derived pictorial containment; Hubbs' photographs abstract through framing with little desire to illuminate or provide an understanding; Simon's sculptures examine his contemplations of age; Beller presents a selection of digital prints and paintings from his most recent work, Color Wheels; Bassett's photographs explore decommissioned Cold War air defense sites surrounding Los Angeles; Pankin believes he is a bonsai master; Erdmann's work reconfigures image, time and sound, proposing new strategies for viewing that challenge habitual engagement and perception.
